To those in a season of waiting...

āLife can only be understood backwards but must be lived forwards.ā - Soren Kierkegaard
Oftentimes it would be easier if we reverse engineered our lives. As health practitioners we are taught to set goals and work it backwards in achievable steps. Starting with the answer makes the destination clear and the process a lot more efficient. But what about those times in life when you keep running into unknowns? When life keeps on living forward but you still donāt have the answers. The waiting can feel painful, messy and confusing at best.
The naivety of youth and the privilege of my circumstances, had me believing you could āout tryā the unknowns or you could force the answers ahead of time through sheer willpower and determination. Well⦠life sure has other plans. What Iām learning is sometimes the only way to get clarity and answers is to muddle right through the messy middle. The process becomes the focus and the goal posts shift to cultivating patience and trust with yourself and in finally getting to your destination.
But how do we trust that the inefficient loop de loops life takes us on are actually moving us closer to our goals? (Life only knows and here is what helps me and my clients)
- Firstly, (as a woman of science) I look for evidence. What are previous examples where life threw a curve ball and we made it through?
- Secondly, learn to observe challenging sensations. We canāt shift, soften or process that which makes the waiting uncomfortable without first becoming aware.
- Thirdly, control what we can control. Sounds clichĆ© but life will take as long as it takes, she canāt be rushed sometimes. If the hope is health, each day prioritise an aspect of health you can control.
In a similar way, my Ease into Rest online program has been in the messy middle for five years. Iāve been working away at it not really knowing what it was or who my target market is etc. I just worked on creating a program that honoured the patterns I was seeing in clinic. Because my client group is seemingly so varied, Iāve looked hard for underlying themes or truths. One thing I noticed was almost everyone has some kind of anxiety.
We all have seasons of waiting where all we can do is learn to manage the discomfort. Unknowingly, this is all I created. A program where we control what we can, we learn skills to ease the discomfort and tolerate the waiting of lifeās messy inbetweens. If this is something you are looking for perhaps consider the Ease into Rest program, itās not perfect, itās not for everyone, but it is for those who are finding the waiting less than easy. You donāt have to muddle through alone please reach out (we have FREE 15min consults), weāre here and ready to support as needed.
In kindness,
Tessa Rose
